Purpleheart’s unique, deep purple color is showstopping and is considered a high-end exotic wood, associated with high-quality custom drums. The dense wood quality also produces a powerful, punchy sound with good attack and sensitivity. With further age and exposure to UV light, the wood becomes a dark brown with a hint of purple. This color-shift can be slowed and minimized by using a UV inhibiting finish on the wood.
